Virginia Series

In the basement studio, McLean, Virginia 1985

The Virginia Series of paintings began after moving from California to Loudoun County, Virginia in 1975, living in Leesburg and Waterford until 1977 when I left for a flying job in Saudi Arabia. Two years later I returned to Virginia's Howardsville, in Albemarle County from 1979 to 1981 and resulted in more drawings and paintings. Brief periods in McLean, Purcellville, and Reston in 1984/85, 1987, and 1989 saw further development of this series of landscapes. We moved to Purcellville in '87 to join a new startup called Presidential Airlines at Dulles Airport. A few months later we were assigned to London, England to be a simulator instructor on the BAE-146 at the British Aerospace facility at Hatfield north of London. We spent nine wonderful months in the UK. Presidential failed in '89. I was then hired by UPS at Louisville, KY where I flew the DC-8 and the B-747 until I retired in 2000 at age 60.
