Field Patterns

This selecton of airshots was taken on October 10, 2006. The weather was grey overcast, wind calm with the visibility around 10 miles in haze. Not the best of conditions. Most of the shots were taken from an altitude around 500 feet above the ground. The last image in the group shows the wing tip and strut of the Aeronca Champ while in a right turn above Fourteen Mile Creek on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. On the horizon can be seen Twelve Mile Island. The names mark the distances from Louisville down river to the west and come from the days when the great 19th century paddle wheel steamers were navigating the river by landmarks.
